BWP Football Academy Competes at Massapequa Boys Showcase

Central Islip, NY – The BWP Football Academy was proudly represented this weekend as the U17s – 2009s and U18/19s – 2007/08s competed at the Massapequa Boys Showcase, a highly respected late-fall event attracting top regional competition.

The U17s completed the weekend with a 1W–1D–1L record across three challenging matches.
They faced:

  • Long Island SC (MLS NEXT 2)
  • East Coast SC (ECNL)
  • Albertson SC (NAL)

Across the three matches, the group posted a –2 goal differential, showing strong moments of control and organization while gaining valuable experience against diverse playing styles. “These are important opportunities for our players to learn and grow,” said Academy Director Steve Freeman. “The East Coast SC side was outstanding which gives us a clear picture of areas we need to improve.”

The U18/19s took on a demanding slate of opponents, meeting:

  • Brentwood SC (ECNL RL)
  • Manhattan SC (ECNL RL)
  • BW Gottschee (MLS Next 2)

The group finished the showcase with a 1W–0D–2L record and a –2 goal differential, demonstrating periods of quality and competitiveness in each match despite tough opposition. “Overall, we let the weekend get away from us which is a bit disappointing to say the least as we want to see more command from our players. We will go back to work tomorrow night as we try to re-establish the habits needed to perform at a consistently high level,” stated Freeman. “I believe in our players and their ability to be better individually and as a group.”

Both squads embraced the opportunity to compete at a high level, continuing to grow through the challenges presented throughout the weekend. The Showcase environment aligns with BWPFA’s commitment to placing players in meaningful developmental experiences that test them technically, tactically, and mentally.
