It was another busy Saturday on Mothers’ Day weekend for the BWP Football Academy, as their U19, U16, and U14 squads all saw action in their respective leagues, producing a blend of strong victories and a tough defeat.
BWP FA U19s grind out a road victory over Westchester Flames
In a tightly contested EDP North Atlantic League matchup, the BWP Football Academy U19s emerged with a gritty 1-0 win against the Westchester Flames. Playing away from home, BWP FA showed poise under pressure and maintained defensive organization throughout the match. The lone goal came at the tail end of the first half, sealing three valuable points for the squad. The result underscores the U19s’ growing maturity and ability to win tight games, especially in league play. The BWP FA U19s remain in 2nd Place in the division with three matches left to play including a match against first-place White Plains Academy.
BWP FA U16s play well in a 6-0 win over FC Dutchmen
BWP FA’s U15/16 side delivered a great defensive performance in their fixture against FC Dutchmen leading to a 6-0 win. The team pressed from the kickoff, and with solid collective play was able to create scoring chances. “The boys did a great job jumping on the game, and winning the ball high up the park,” stated BWP FA Staff Coach FJ Zwicklbauer. Several players got on the scoresheet in what was a great team effort, reflecting the depth and attacking talent of the squad as several players were missing due to injury and other familial obligations. The win keeps the U15/16s on a strong trajectory this season to compete for 1st Place and looking to continue to improve their position in the league table. Currently, the BWP FA U15/16s are in 2nd Place with one match in hand. “We are extremely proud of the hard work our players continue to put in. Training four times a week is not easy, and you can see their hard work is starting to show in their play,” stated Academy Director Steve Freeman.
BWP U13/14s fall to Force FC in a difficult road outing
The youngest of the Academy’s weekend competitors, the U13/14s, faced a challenging test against a strong Force FC side and ultimately fell 5-1 on the road. Despite flashes of positive play and a well-taken consolation goal dragging the game to 2-1, BWP FA struggled to match Force FC’s pace and physical strength. The coaching staff emphasized the value of the experience and will look to build on the lessons learned moving forward. “Today was a tall order, but the experience is great for our young footballers. They continue to battle and are trying to make the game,” stated BWP FA Head Coach Steve Freeman. “The group continues to battle and make strides in overall play. I am very proud of the group as they work through injuries while gaining valuable experience. It is never easy to work through challenging situations and negative feedback, but it can build the resilience we all strive for.”
