Germantown, MD – May 25, 2025 — BWP Football Academy continues to make waves on the youth soccer stage as its BWP FA U14s – 2011/12s, BWP FA U17s – 2008s, and BWP FA U19s – 2006/07s boys teams have each advanced to the championship matches of the prestigious Potomac Memorial Day Tournament, set to take place Monday at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Germantown, Maryland. The U16s – 2009/10s failed to advance, finishing in second place in the group with 5 points, and missing out on advancing on goal differential.
Widely recognized as one of the premier youth soccer showcases on the East Coast, the Potomac Memorial Day Tournament attracts elite clubs from across the nation. For BWP FA, reaching three separate age group finals in one of the most competitive youth tournaments is a testament to the academy’s player development model and return to relevance on the regional stage. “I am very happy and proud of our boys who have bought into the 4x a week training periodization we adopted in 2020/21. The rewards of their hard work and dedication is really starting to be evident,” stated Academy Director Steve Freeman.
The BWP FA U14s – 2011/12s rallied in the group stage and advanced on penalties after a 1-1 draw. They play Potomac SA for the title at 11:20am on Monday. The BWP FA U17s- 2008s delivered arguably the most dominant performance of the tournament so far, scoring 8 goals across their first three matches while conceding just 2 goals and goal differential of +6. They play PA Classics NAL at 9:00 am on Monday. The BWP FA U19s – 2006/07s won a close contest 2-1 against Wake FC (NC) MLS 2 in the group stage, and 2-0 against So PA Soccer Academy to advance to the finals on Monday morning against Real Ole FC.
“Advancing three teams to the finals is no small feat,” said BWP FA Academy Director Steve Freeman. “It speaks to the work ethic of our players, the quality of our programming, and the culture we’ve rebuilt at BWP FA post-pandemic. Having four age groups run 8W 3D 1L with a GD +13 is probably one of our best weekends in a long time, maybe more than 10 years.” The BWP Football Academy was founded in 1996 and enters its 30th year of operation in 2025/26.
