Albany, NY – The BWP FA U17s faced another important challenge in competition this weekend against , with the match serving as a valuable learning experience for the Academy’s young squad. Competing against a strong and organized Eastern FC side, BWP FA U17s showed moments of quality possession play, resilience, and attacking intent throughout the contest. The match demanded high levels of concentration, physicality, and tactical discipline, continuing to expose the group to the standards required at the ECNL RL level.
Academy Director Steve Freeman emphasized the long-term developmental value of matches played in highly competitive 
environments. “These matches are critical for our players’ development. The intensity and tempo force players to make decisions
quicker, communicate better, and solve problems under pressure,” said Freeman.
“There were positive moments where we built through midfield well and controlled phases of the match, but we also saw areas where we must continue improving collectively.”
Freeman pointed specifically to transition moments and game management as areas the squad continues to focus on throughout the ECNL RL season. “At this level, small details matter. Reactions after losing possession, defensive organization, and concentration in key moments can change games quickly. These experiences are helping prepare our players for higher levels
of football.”
Technical Director Ricardo Vaz Tê praised the mentality and bravery shown by the players while continuing to reinforce the Academy’s technical identity. “The players showed courage trying to play football under pressure, and that is important for their development,” said Vaz Tê. “We want players comfortable on the ball, willing to make decisions, and capable of competing in difficult moments.” The former professional forward also highlighted the importance of quicker attacking transitions after regaining possession. “There were moments where we recovered the ball in good areas, but we must become more aggressive and decisive immediately after winning it back. Modern football is played very fast in transition.”
Despite the difficult challenge, the match provided another important step in the growth of the U17 group as BWP FA continues building within one of the top developmental platforms in American youth soccer. The BWP Football Academy remains committed to exposing players to elite competition while helping each athlete grow technically, tactically, physically, and mentally through the demands of the ECNL RL environment. BWP FA returns to ECNL RL action this weekend looking to build on the lessons learned and continue progressing throughout the spring campaign.
