BWP Football Academy Competes for the First Time at ECNL Regional League Virginia Showcase
Richmond, Virginia – BWP Football Academy’s U17s – 2009s and U18/19s – 2007/08s delivered a strong collective performance this past weekend at the ECNL Regional League Virginia Showcase, competing against top clubs from across the country. The Academy collected 3 victories, 1 draw and 2 losses over the 6 matches with an overall Goal Differential of +2. (9 Goals Scored, 7 Goals Allowed with each team posting 1 shut-out)
U17s – 2009s Show Quality Across Three Matches
The U17s faced a diverse slate of opponents, taking on Braddock Road SC (VA), Boreal FC (MN) and Liverpool Academy (IA). The group finished the event with a 1W–1D–1L record, posting a +2 goal differential and demonstrating an upward trajectory throughout the weekend. Their performances reflected discipline in possession, sharp transitional play, and improved defensive organization.
U18/19s – 2007/08s Earn Two Wins Against Top Competition
The U18/19s squared off against Lonestar SC (TX), Boreal FC (MN) and Plymouth SC (MI), emerging with a strong 2W–0D–1L record and an even 0 goal differential. Across all three matches, the squad showed maturity, physicality, and the ability to adapt to different playing styles—highlighting the depth and competitiveness of the older age group.
A Successful Weekend for BWPFA
Both teams represented the Academy with professionalism and competitive spirit in their first-ever appearances within the ECNL RL, gaining valuable showcase exposure while measuring themselves against top regional and national opposition. The event provided meaningful development opportunities as the squads continue preparing for the winter and spring phases of the season. Both groups participated in a match analysis session reviewing video from Day 1 and 2 on Saturday afternoon. “The event’s structure allowed for us to have more contact time with our players as a technical staff which enabled us to add other developmental opportunities like match analysis,” stated Academy Director and Head Coach Steve Freeman.
