Former Staff Coach Tony Greene Returns to BWP FA

Albany, NY – BWP Football Academy (BWP FA) is pleased to announce the return of former staff coach Tony Greene, bringing with him a wealth of experience across collegiate, high school, and club soccer in the Capital Region. “It is great to have Tony back with the Club,” stated Academy Director Steve Freeman. Greene will be leading the BWP FA Pre-Academy program that will compete in the Pre-ECNL. BWP FA is currently the only club with access to the Pre-ECNL for boys ages 9-11 in Upstate New York. “Tony will not only be leading our Club’s efforts in the Pre-Academy space, but also working with our oldest Academy teams,” Freeman continued. “I am really excited to have Tony with us and look forward to supporting his growth as coach and leader in our area.”

Greene’s coaching career spans more than a decade and includes time at the collegiate level as an assistant coach with SUNY Oswego Men’s Soccer in 2012. At the high school level, he has led the boys varsity program at Colonie High School since 2019, helping shape a competitive and disciplined environment for student-athletes.

In the club game, Greene has made a significant impact locally. He spent eight years with Colonie Soccer Club, including six as Technical Director, where he oversaw player development and coaching standards. He also served as Technical Director for Fifty FC during a key period that supported the club’s merger and growth. Most recently, Greene spent two years with Blackwatch Premier, further strengthening his ties to the BWP FA community.

Greene holds a United Soccer Coaches National License and a U.S. Soccer Grassroots License, reflecting his commitment to ongoing professional development and coaching excellence.

“I take pride in creating a structured, high-level training environment that challenges players technically, tactically, mentally, and physically,” Greene said. “My approach emphasizes attention to detail, consistency, and a commitment to continuous improvement, both individually and collectively.”

His coaching philosophy centers on accountability, discipline, and daily effort. Greene emphasizes that players should strive to perform at their best in both training and competition while recognizing their role within the team.

“I believe in setting and maintaining high standards and developing players who compete with purpose,” he added. “Athletes should understand they represent something greater than themselves, working not only for personal success but for their teammates.”

As a former player, Greene competed at Hudson Valley Community College before continuing his career at SUNY Oswego, where he played three seasons and served as team captain in his senior year.

BWP FA welcomes Tony back to the technical staff and looks forward to the experience, leadership, and player-first mentality he brings to the club.
